… moving … finished … move Blogger to WordPress

Following Pat’s advise using a blog of my own instead of using Blogger (because it is more flexible, adjustable, …, and finally mine) I finally moved my blog to a WordPress installation of my own …

… it took quite some time, because … well it could have been faster … but I played a lot with new features to see what’s possible …

How to move a blog from Blogger to WordPress?

… just create a new WordPress blog (which not that hard and there are lots of descriptions on how to do that out there).

… to move Blogger to WordPress,  choose “Tools” -> “Import” in your WordPress-blog admin panel and follow the instructions … it might be necessary to install a couple of new plugins, but WordPress will tell you, what to do …

… and in a couple of minutes, your blog has moved, including images, links, categories, tags everything …

When it might take a little bit longer?

… I had already an existing WordPress blog concerning iOS topics. I could have followed the steps above and just created a new installation. Which is fine, but would need separate updates for each single blog, when a new version of WordPress is available …

However, WordPress has a feature to use a single installation for multiple blogs … which is not enabled by default, and needed some time … again there are lots of howtos out there …

… another advise of Pat’s advises tells to link your blog to multiple social networks … which I did with Google+, FaceBook, Tumbler, Twitter, Pinterest … (see the links below or in the top right corner) … Of course that took some additional time, as i have not used most of them up to now …

… using Google+ there is the possibility to connect a blog to your profile there … which was another journey about learning how to tweak child themes in WordPress …

… for the WordPress theme I stayed with the standard one “Twenty-fourteen” … mainly because of laziness to find a new one … there are a lot of themes available, also free ones … but a little bit overwhelming …

… and some other tweaks of the theme to make Google like my site 😉

… the theme likes images … I have not really used them … the images I used were to small for the theme design … and the social networks like images, too … therefore, I started adjusting my old blog entries (of course starting with the first one) … that takes really some time … I am not finished, yet … but I learned a lot about formating, linking, adjusting, tweaking them …

I even learned to create animated GIFs 😉

… still much to do, but I will start bloging new content, and will try to update old entries …

For me, personally, start blogging again!
